Dodge Ball Rules used in all tournaments played.
The tournament is open to all players 13 years of age and older. Waivers to be signed by participates prior to the start of the first game. (Parents or Guardians must sign waivers for players under the age of 18) This is a 6 player, two ball tournament. A team may play with only 5 players but less than 5 will result in a forfeit of that game. Teams may include up to 8 players on their rosters but substitutions can only occur between games in a match (unless a serious injury takes place within a game).
The tournament structure will be determined based on the number of teams that register. In all events, round robin play will determine the seating and the championship will be decided on a bracket method, either double or single elimination, best of 3, 5 or 7
PLAY:
The court will be 52x25 divided into 2 halves. Players must remain in bounds at all times. (Staying in bounds is one of the most difficult aspects of Dodge Ball) The court monitors will be giving warnings to the players to stay in bounds. If a player goes out of bounds and it does not affect an attempt or play, the monitors will warn the players but not call them out. If a player goes out of bounds to avoid being hit the player will be called out. If a player goes out of bounds to catch a ball, the throwing player is not called out.
Each game begins with the two balls placed on the center line. Players begin at their back line. Upon the court monitors signal, one selected player form each team runs to retrieve their ball. The ball must then be cleared to the back of the court before a play can be made. The team that runs their ball to the back wall last, has to make the first throw of the game. (the team that runs their ball to the back wall first can throw first if they so choose)
Players have 5 seconds to make a play.
If a player is hit on any part of his body and the ball then touches any other part of the playing field (ground, another player, wall, ceiling etc) that player is out. Another player can not catch a ball that has hit a teammate in hopes that he will not go out. It is up to the player first hit to make the catch. A player may block a thrown ball with a ball being held provided the held ball is not dropped. If the ball is dropped as a result of the contact, that player is out.
A throwing player is out if the ball thrown is caught by the player it first comes in contact with. Upon a caught ball, a player who has been earlier put out is allowed to return to play. “First Out” “First In” will be the order of returnees.
When a player is eliminated, that player must go directly to the designated “out player box/area” All games are played until one team has all its players eliminated.
On all matters, the court monitors will have the final say. While it is expected that honor system will apply (if you get hit, you leave the court) the court monitors will decide disputes. If a player argues with the court monitor that player can and will be eliminated from play for that game and may, if arguing continues, be eliminated from the entire tournament.
